I decided to make my first post about Harry Potter because it is the think I'm most obsessed with. I will probably be making several Harry Potter posts in this blog.
The obsession started about a year and half ago when my friend begged me to read Harry Potter. I agreed and I instantly fell in love with it. Since then I've read the books about five times (on my sixth) and have even created my own Harry Potter fansite. My room is filled with Harry Potter collectors posters, wall art, and a bunch of artifacts that I picked up when I was lucky enough to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in Orlando Florida. The trip was amazing, I'll probably make another post all about that.
I've asked myself several times why it is I love Harry Potter, I over-analize everything, which is why I obsesse over things. Anyways, this is the best answer I can currently give you.
The broad idea:
Harry Potter has helped me through the toughest in my life. With Harry's strength and courage through things like death and just life in general I figured well if he get through all this stuff why can't I?
So I went to Harry Potter whenever I had troubles, I find them amazing books to deal with death, because of all the deaths Harry goes through. The hope Harry has is amazing, and reading them gives me more hope. I feel a better person when I read the books, so I will never stop.
Analized:
Well the big picture of Harry Potter is that love is the strongest magic, and it can conqure anything. I agree with this 100% in our world too. I mean if we all cared about each other the world would be a better place, which is obvious, but the fact that Harry Potter is really about that really resignated with me. Therefor the fact that it resignated with me, it made me a better person because I now try not to be as quick to judge and try to help out people in need. I'm not saying I'm always like this, we all have our setbacks, but reading Harry Potter makes me realize it again when I forget.
It is also well written and JKR has many very wise quotes throughout the books that make it even better, like "To the well-organized mind death is but the next great adventure." I want that written on tombstone when I die, because I agree with it whole-heartedly. I could name tons of amazing quotes right now; "'It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.'", "'What's comin' will come and we'll meet it when it does.'", "'Harry, suffering like this proves that you are still a man! This pain is part of being human ... the fact that you can feel pain like this is your greatest strength.'", "'Numbing the pain for awhile will make it worse when you finally feel it.'", "'It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.'". All of those quotes I agree with, and the fact that I agree with all of them, and just the philosophy that is Harry Potter, makes me love it even more.
And then, of course, we have the characters. Oh how do I even start writing about the characters, so many I love, and of course I'm going to have to post them all and say why I love them. If anyone ever reads all of this I give them a lot of credit.
HARRY: Well, considering he is the main character you know a lot about Harry. For some reason though, I find that when I discuss the books with people, I've talked to very few that say that he is their favorite character. I love all the characters on the Order of the Phoenix side so I can't say he is my favorite, but I have to say that I think in the end, I can relate to Harry the most, actually second to most. He can be quick to anger, like me, and he can also be slightly arrogant, which I can find myself being at times. He is also though so good, and he makes it through everything trying the best he can. He needs his friends more than he understands and he would sacrafice his life to protect the people he loves. I think I am a lot like him in those ways. I think some things I realized I could understand quicker than Harry, like the quote on his parents grave and sometimes the way he is about death, I think I always had a pretty good understanding about death and life, and the books just reanforced it. In the end though, I think I'm a lot like Harry---or at least I hope I am. I do take a lot of quizzes and I get Harry in many.
RON: I don't think people give Ron all the credit he deserves. Most people don't realize that Harry needed Ron, just as much as he needed Hermione with everything in the last book. Ron is Harry's fun. I mean I laugh my head off every time I read the books because of how funny Ron can be, and Harry needs that just as much as he needs Hermione's brains. While Harry and a few others helped me realize the truth about life, Ron made it all more optimistic because of how sarcastic and amazing he is. Though he may doubt himself, everyone knows that Ron will always be there for the people he loves. I love dear Won-Won.
HERMIONE: I love Hermione to death, but to be quite honest, I can't really relate to her. There are some things I can relate to with her of course, like the fact that I'm a nerd, and I can honestly say that most of the time I'm not afraid to be myself, like her. I think it's because she takes caution when she deals with things and will take her time, while I'm stubborn and caution and myself don't mix the greatest at times, which is a bad thing, but true. In the end though, I love Hermione, she is one of the greatest people, very good, kind, and she always knows what to do. Hermione is probably someone I look up to more than am like.
DUMBLEDORE: Like Ron puts it, he's off his rocker, but he is my hero. Dumbledore is the one that I will always look up to and I will always strive to be more like. The thing with Dumbledore is that even if he had a bad past, he learned from his mistakes, which is probably the best thing you can do in your life if you want to succeed. He is the one that made me realize how life is, and everything he said, it would just click in my mind. I think he, well JKR, made me a wiser person. Dumbledore is one of the proofs of goodness, the leader of goodness.
REMUS: I see Remus's flaws more than any others throughout the books, I realize now that is because I am most like Remus. When I first started reading the books, he was always the one I would question. I'd always be like why would you do that? How could you do that? I never did that to any other character. Remus is kind, smart, weary to trust, easy-going, sometimes outspoken, and very hard on himself. I am like that too. Even the way that JKR words Remus's dialog is kind of the way I speak. I realize now that almost everything Remus did, right or wrong, I would have have done it almost the exact same way. In the end through, Remus pulls through. Thick and thin, Remus would be there for you, even if he didn't understand why you'd want him there.
I am going to continue this tomorrow, it's 3:44 AM and I think I'll spend the rest of the morning reading.
